Water Planet sells the world’s first smart membrane products, which enable the most cost-effective, reliable solutions for industrial water reuse. Ultrafiltration is the key to growing the water reuse market, but fouling drives cost up and reliability down, such that most industries cannot afford to reuse their water.
We deliver a new generation of membrane materials and controls that go beyond conventional membrane technologies.
- More robust, easy-to-clean membranes that tolerate exposure to extreme fouling, temperature and chemical conditions.

Water Planet sells the world’s first smart membrane products, which enable the most cost-effective, reliable approach for treating the most challenging waters.
- PolyCera® membranes: Robust & easy-to-clean ultrafiltration (UF) membranes. PolyCera membranes are 5 to 10 times less expensive than ceramic membranes and can treat waters that are impossible for commodity polymer membranes.
- IntelliFlux® controls: Intelligent, self-adaptive ultrafiltration controls. IntelliFlux controls require no changes to existing membrane filtration equipment, which means no capital equipment investment, and deliver up to 20% cost savings.
Our customers enjoy up to 40% lower operating cost when deploying both PolyCera membranes and IntelliFlux controls – even on the most challenging waters.

Eric Hoek, Ph.D.
Dr. Eric Hoek has over 20 years of experience in water treatment membrane technology research, consulting, commercialization and application. Dr. Hoek was the inventor of thin-film nanocomposite membrane technology and a co-founder of NanoH2O, which was later acquired by LG Chem. Dr. Hoek completed UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, Executive Program, General Business Management and Director’s Education & Certification in 2014.
Subir Bhattacharjee, Ph.D.
Dr. Subir Bhattacharjee possesses over 25 years of experience in water treatment research, consulting, commercialization and engineering. He previously served for 12 years as Professor of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada, ran an industry funded Canadian national research center in oil & gas water treatment, and was the founder and CEO of EnVivAqua a water technology startup in Canada.
Tom Wilson possesses over 20 years of experience in the water treatment industry, having held roles in both engineering and operations. He formerly served as chief operations officer of Kore Infrastructure and achieved great success to become vice president at established companies including Evoqua / Siemens / US Filter. Mr. Wilson holds a BSME degree in Engineering from Montana State University-Bozeman, and an MBA from University of Alaska Anchorage.
Arian Edalat, Ph.D.
Dr. Arian Edalat has over 14 years of experience in water treatment system engineering, manufacturing and operations. He previously served as Director of Operations and Maintenance at Noor Vijeh Company, and as VP of Operations at FGC. Dr. Edalat completed the Executive Program in Management and Business Administration from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. He also possesses a Ph.D. from the University of Bradford located in Bradford, England.
Jonathan Nguyen brings over 15 years of experience in production and manufacturing to his role as VP of Production for Water Planet. Prior to joining the Water Planet team, Mr. Nguyen led production/manufacturing function at NanoH2O which was later sold to LG Chem Ltd. in mid-2014. Mr. Nguyen also previously led the production group Industrial Metal Supply in California’s San Fernando Valley. Mr. Nguyen holds a BA from Penn State University and an MBA from Kaplan University.
Tom Flynn possesses over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting within manufacturing & high technology environments. Prior to Water Planet, Mr. Flynn served as VP of Finance at NanoH2O previously headquartered in El Segundo, California, and later sold to LG Chem Ltd., TransDigm based Cleveland, Ohio, and FiberTech Polymers also located in Southern California. Mr. Flynn holds a BA in Accounting from Cleveland State University, and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University.
In 2010, the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico flowed for three months, releasing about 4.9 million barrels of crude oil into one of the world’s most important water regions. It remains the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry. An estimated 53,000 barrels per day escaped from the well causing extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the Gulf’s fishing and tourism industries.
Water Planet was intimately involved in helping to find solutions to this crisis, including skimming and separating the crude from the ocean water, and remediating the affected marshlands.
